In remembrance of the siege of Budapest in World War II, the Budapest History Museum offers a series on how the then-colleagues of the museum remember the harsh and tragic winter of 1944-1945.
The core of the series is a memoir written by a former colleague of the museum, called Antal Virágh, who worked and lived together with his family in the Fishermen's Bastion in the Buda Castle District which was an epicenter of the siege in 1945. Back then, the building functioned as an exhibition space and storage for the medieval stone carvings unearthed in the Castle District at various excavations as well as various other valuable items from the museum's collections. The entries of the memoir are an amazing testimony to the heroic efforts Mr. Virágh and his family carried out in order to protect the artefacts.
The entries are published regularly on the Facebook page of the Budapest History Museum as well as on the website of the Castle Museum.
